Adopt-a-School Program Connects Students With Tech Employers

Ryan Vartoogian, founder of Spartan Internet, is heading up an effort through the Capital Area IT Council to help high-tech companies find employees, and also help local residents get jobs.

Through the Adopt-A-School program, high-tech companies work with educators and students at their adopted school to help the kids learn the skills they need to compete for area IT jobs.

“It really gives them a framework to explain what options exist in the Mid-Michigan area for IT career paths,” Vartoogian says.

Area tech companies have been working with Michigan State University (MSU) to retain more talented graduates. Now it’s time to extend that effort to K-12, Vartoogian says.

The Adopt-A-School program promotes local IT companies, encourages kids to take IT college courses and identifies students who may be headed down an IT path.
