MSU’s Project GREEEN Looking to Fund $2 Million in New Research Initiatives

Are you a scientist or educator looking to focus or research plant agriculture? If so, Project GREEEN (Generating Research and Extension to meet Economic and Environmental Needs) at Michigan State University has issued its request for proposals for fiscal year 2011.

Scientists and educators who focus on plant agriculture have an opportunity to further their portfolios thanks to funds made available by Project GREEEN at MSU.

Project GREEEN is Michigan’s plant agriculture initiative, a partnership between producers, industry, state government and MSU. It's setting the standard for integrated research and information delivery “to swiftly and efficiently solve grower and processor problems."

More than $2 million will be available for funding research projects in 2011.

To be selected, proposals must clearly demonstrate the projects’ benefits to Michigan’s plant-based agriculture industries, says Doug Buhler, associate director of the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station and Project GREEEN coordinator.

“Our review panel consists of scientists, educators and industry professionals, and they will ensure that all funded proposals address critical research and education priorities identified by the state’s plant commodity and stakeholder groups,” adds Buhler.

Proposals and letters of support must be submitted through the Project GREEEN website by 5 p.m. Jan. 12, 2011.
