Environmental Focus Lands Lansing New Green Drinks Sessions

The Lansing area’s been making real efforts to go “green” and it just keeps getting greener.

Last month, an Indiana-based ecological services firm with a Grand Rapids presence brought Green Drinks, which is a national sustainability networking group, to the Greater Lansing area.

Green Drinks seeks to bring an area’s green brains together to talk about sustainability issues and solutions. Green Drinks has a presence in more than 350 cities nationwide and has eight Michigan chapters.

The Lansing chapter, which is run by a Michigan JFNew team, launched in July. JFNew organizes the Grand Rapids Green Drinks crew and started a Lansing location after opening a satellite office in Mid-Michigan.

“It doesn’t matter what your background is or how intense you are about being sustainable, it’s about bringing like minds together over a beer,” says Dave Nicholson with JFNew. “A lot of times government officials and local professionals in the area show up. We also get students.”

Lansing Green Drinks members meet the second Thursday of every month. The inaugural July 1 meeting yielded about 30 participants. The next meeting will be held at 5 p.m. at the Nuthouse in Lansing.
