The fledgling
Holt Arts Council intends its first public art work to be in place by the end of summer and is seeking contributions for the massive sculpture from residents.
With $10,000 from the
Downtown Development Authority, the council has commissioned
Old Town artist Tom Sheerin to produce an eight-foot-high, three-sided stainless steel piece to be placed in a new park at the corner of Holt and Aurelius roads.

The concept is a sculpture within a sculpture, Sheerin says. The exterior will represent the larger community; the interior, composed of items donated by residents in a nod to recycling, will represent living, working and playing in Holt.
“We could see that he had put a lot of thought into his proposal,” says Evan Hope, the Delhi Township clerk and a member of the Arts Council.
“Tom’s design is unique and interesting. It will take on added meaning from the objects that are included inside,” says Kara Hope, Evan's wife and Arts Council president.
The council and Sheerin are still looking for contributions for the inner section of the sculpture, including worn kitchen items, a sewing machine, office equipment, roller skates and old toys. They will be visible through acrylic windows.
Formed just over a year ago, the council’s goal is to make art more prevalent in the community, says Evan Hope.
Holt is an unincorporated community within Delhi Township.
