The IKEA design team descended on Old Town Lansing this
week, preparing to unload $50,000 in IKEA furniture to 10 Old Town
businesses.
Last year, Old
Town won IKEA’s “Small
Businesses, Big Dreams, Furnished by IKEA” contest. Downtowns from all over the
country sent in video applications explaining why their area should win the
$50,000, but Old Town Lansing beat them all.
“Our hard work is paying off,” says Jamie
Schriner-Hooper, executive director of the Old Town Commercial
Association. “We have anticipated the arrival of the IKEA crews for months. We
can’t wait to see the transformations and share them with the community.”
The IKEA crew will stay in Old Town
for the next couple of weeks. Old
Town will hold an open
house showcasing the improvements from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Jan. 19.
The following businesses received the IKEA award and will
receive $5,000 in goods: the Old Town Commercial Association, Portable Feast
and Friends, Such Video, the Sierra Club, Elderly Instruments, the Headroom
Salon, Gone 2 the Dogs, Preuss Pets, Vernadine’s Soul Food and Pablo’s
Panaderia.
