The
City of East Lansing and
Meridian Township's innovative collaborations and programs that foster entrepreneurial growth have been recognized by researchers at the
University of Michigan-Dearborn's Center for Innovation Research (iLabs).
The
eCities 2010 research project surveyed more than 100 Michigan communities in order to determine which communities best understand what small businesses need to be successful. The other five winning communities were Grand Rapids, Wixom, Livonia, Tecumseh and Jonesville.
“We are pleased to be recognized for our efforts to tap into the new economy through various entrepreneurial initiatives,” says New Economy Initiatives project manager Jeff Smith for the City of East Lansing. “Our work at the
TIC and beyond has allowed us to provide opportunities and support to a growing number of local entrepreneurs, many of which have celebrated tremendous success over the past two years.”
The top seven communities were selected for their ability to communicate with small businesses and provide connections to broader resources and insight on trends, which both communities have achieved.
The top performing communities were honored at a ceremony at UM-Dearborn on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
