One goal the City of Lansing and Michigan State University (MSU)
share is keeping MSU students in the area after they graduate. In order to keep
students in the region, the two have created an internship program designed to introduce
students to a variety of civic and non-profit job opportunities before they graduate.
The new "Linking Lansing" program matches students with
Lansing-based internships. It also hosts job shadow days for students and job
search events for Lansing
businesses and MSU students.
Lansing Economic Development Corporation President Bob
Trezise says the city needs to show MSU, Cooley
Law School
and Lansing Community College students that the area
is a great place to live after college.
“We need to stop convincing them that Lansing is cool,” Trezise says. “That needs
to be self-evident.”
Trezise says this program will show students that the Lansing job market is
growing along with the city, which will see more than $350 million in new
developments in the downtown area over the next few years.
