East Lansing Company Helping to Create Local Green Building Council

Kincaid Building Group is pulling together a group of area contractors, builders, real estate agents, architects, engineers and other professional development groups to form a Lansing affiliation of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

USGBC chapters create green building teams. The teams then use the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system to build environmentally friendly buildings. Each company that’s a part of the team receives LEED training

Green buildings save up to 30-50 percent of energy, 35 percent of carbon emissions, 40 percent of water and 70 percent of water compared to traditional buildings.

“I don’t think the question in the future will be is it green, but how green is it,” says Ryan Henry with the Kincaid Building Group about the future of LEED buildings.

Henry and Kincaid President Ryan Kincaid have started getting industry leaders together for LEED workshops and say several companies are showing interest in the affiliation.
