The
Lansing Symphony Orchestra (LSO) was presented with a $5,000 check last Friday at the Meridian Mall Macy’s store and is the first recipient of
Macy’s Community Giving Grant. The grant will be used to support the Side-by-Side Performance at the Lansing Symphony’s Holiday Pops concert on Dec. 12.
The Side-by-Side Performance gives high school musicians the opportunity to rehearse and perform Tchaikovsky’s
Nutcracker Suite alongside LSO musicians and conductor Timothy Muffitt.
“This is such a unique opportunity that students won’t find many places: to be able to sit on stage at the Wharton Center next to people like Richard Sherman, our Principal Flute, or Seunghee Lee, our Concertmaster. . . and to be conducted by Timothy Muffitt, playing for over 2,000 people,” says Catherine Guarino, director of education and engagement at the LSO. “That’s a thrill that a high school student will never forget, and we are so proud to be able to provide it.“
Auditions for the Side-by-Side Performance will be held in the fall for interested student musicians.
