MSU'S College of Nursing has received nearly $7.45 million in federal stimulus money for the expansion of its research facilities in a new building.
The $17.6 million project has already secured $10.15 million in other support, including a $7 million commitment from the
Timothy and Bernadette Marquez Foundation. The building will be named “The Bott Building for Nursing Education and Research” in honor of Bernadette’s family.
The additional funding from the
National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Research Resources will enable the relocation of the college’s Nursing Research Center and faculty into the Bott Building for Nursing Education and Research.
"Much of the research we do [at the College of Nursing] relates to the most frequent types of problems experienced by patients and families," says Jill Vondrasek, marketing and communications manager. "We have a network of community-based settings where clinical and translational research occurs, and much of that research is done locally."
This development will also bring jobs to the region as the College of Nursing plans to hire additional research scholars over the course of the next three to five years. The grant will also help to create construction jobs on campus for twelve to 18 months, according to Vondrasek.
