The Motorola Foundation has given Michigan State (MSU) two Innovation Generation Grants totaling $95,000 so the
school can boost science, technology, engineering and math education for Lansing-area
kids.
The money will help fund two MSU outreach programs – the
Wireless Integrated MicroSystems for Teens (WIMS) and the Youth in Energy and
Environment Humanitarian Project.
WIMS will receive $50,000 for a two-week summer
residential summer program for seventh to ninth grade students who are
interested in math and engineering.
The Youth in Energy and Environment Humanitarian project
is geared toward younger kids. This $45,000 grant goes toward the Department of
Mechanical Engineering’s capstone course concerning energy and environmental
education. Through this program, MSU engineering students work with third
through sixth graders on engineering projects that effect the environment.
