Humanities Council Raises $100,000 for Reading Program

The Michigan Humanities Council, based in downtown Lansing, has raised $100,000 for its statewide Great Michigan Read program.

The program was launched in July 2007 and seeks to get the entire state reading and discussing The Nick Adams Stories by Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway spent many summers in northern Michigan.

Jan Fedewa with the Michigan Humanities Council says the program will get people more engaged in reading and encourage them to pursue their education through books.

“We really believe that people need to read and rediscover reading because it will help create an educated and reengaged society,” Fedewa says.
