Downturns in the real estate market have yielded positive results for Holt-based entrepreneur, Joan Fabiano, who has seen her client base grow by 50 percent in the last five months.
Fabiano owns Romancing Your Home, helping clients who want to sell their houses redecorate their space before putting it on the market.
“There are two reasons we’re growing,” Fabiano says. “One is word of mouth. Two, homeowners that are listed but not getting any showings are now 
considering home staging, where before they were a little skeptical.”
Fabiano got her home staging start in the larger market of Chicago. Fabiano says home staging has been a trend in larger cities for quite some time, but it’s starting to catch on in Mid-Michigan.
“In larger metro cities, home staging has become almost like calling your Realtor,” she says. “When you call your Realtor, you also call your home stager.”
The trend toward selling homes on the Internet has been a major player in Fabiano’s growth.
“In this kind of market, it’s extremely important to have beautiful pictures on the Internet,” she says, adding that 85 percent of home seekers check the Internet for listings.
Fabiano doesn’t have any immediate plans to physically expand her home-based business, but expects the growth to continue.
