30 to 40 New Jobs Projected as Spartan Internet Grows into Lansing School

The Internet consulting company Ryan Vartoogian started in his dorm room while attending Michigan State University has taken off, making its way onto the national scene and Inc. magazine's list of 5,000 fastest growing private companies.

Vartoogian started Spartan Internet Consulting in 1997, when the Internet was in its infancy, as a way to help companies create a presence on the web. As the Internet grew, so did Spartan Internet.

Last year the company doubled. Vartoogian expects it to double again this year. The Lansing State Journal reported in July the company expects to add 30 to 40 employees.

"The business climate has changed a lot over the last 10 years. Now it seem the resources are much, much more available in Lansing especially in the IT field," Vartoogian says. "There's definitely a force and momentum to move in that field."

To cultivate young, high-tech talent in the area, Vartoogian is turning the old Holmes Street School in Lansing into a tech corridor. Development on the school will begin in about a month.
