Tech-savvy Resident Gives Old Town Lansing a Web Site Facelift

Old Town Lansing is benefiting from Old Town citizen Andy Detskas’ web-building talent. Detskas recently created an interactive site for the Old Town Commercial Association and the neighborhood he loves.

“Not only was it a chance for him to show off the things he can do, but it also gave him a chance to give back to the community,” says Old Town Commercial Association Executive Director Jamie Schriner-Hooper.

Detskas lives in an Old Town loft and started working on the site several months ago. His work vastly improved the site and prevented the Old Town Commercial Association from spending thousands of dollars to redo its site.

The site, www.iloveoldtown.org, features an interactive map and links to all participating Old Town businesses, and has links to member businesses’ own web sites.  Businesses without a web site can have Detskas design a page that also links to the main site.

“This allows us to build a web presence for so many small businesses that are just starting off and don’t have an opportunity to build a site,” Schriner-Hooper says.

The site is also user friendly, allowing the Old Town Commercial Association employees to change content rather than forcing staff to pay a web manager to oversee site content.
