On April 21,
Michigan State University students connected to the
Spotlight Michigan initiative will be unveiling the results of a year-long comparative research project exploring the attraction of young, entrepreneurial talent to Michigan.
"We did a survey of university students statewide to understand what qualities in a place are desirable, looking at factors like highly elaborate transportation systems, diversity, job within interest area [and so on]," says Amanda VanderMeulen, who is part of the marketing and communications team at Spotlight Michigan. "Using these results, we [then] examined nine cities that have some similarities to the Greater Lansing area to determine what these cities were doing comparatively well in terms of attracting talent, and where Lansing’s comparative assets lie."
Among many other findings, their research efforts have determined that bigger cities are not necessarily better at attracting young talent; and that 52 percent of MSU survey respondents said they were "Somewhat Likely," "Likely," or "Extremely Likely" to stay in Michigan after graduation.
The
Evolve: Talent in the New Economy event will be held at 5:30 p.m. in The Spartan Club at Michigan State University’s Spartan Stadium.
