TechSmith’s Jing Project Connects More Than 250,000 People

TechSmith's Jing Project has reached more than 250,000 people who use the program to instantly send screenshots and screencasts to people all over the world.

Okemos-based software company TechSmith developed the program, which users can download for free. Once Jing is downloaded, users can send a screencast or movie of what’s on their computer screen to another person.

For example, if someone can’t figure out how to add a smiley face to an instant message, a friends who knows how to do it can send a screencast showing exactly how to add the smiley.

“It’s easy to use and fast,” says Jennifer Middlin, with TechSmith. “For you to be able to see something on your screen and share it on your IM message in seconds flat is amazing.”

TechSmith developed the technology internally. Initially it was offered as an additional service to customers who frequently need to train people or communicate more clearly on-line. Now the public is grabbing hold of this free service.

Middlin says she’s not aware of any other program that operates like Jing.
