Lansing Prepping 2020 Non-Motorized Plan

The City of Lansing and citizens are working on a non-motorized plan for the City of Lansing that may include new sidewalks, more trees, better lighting and better pedestrian access.

The goal of the 2020 plan is to double the trips made on bicycle or foot, eliminate motorist-caused pedestrian and cyclist deaths and reduce bicyclist injuries from motor vehicle crashes by 30 percent each year for the next 10 years.

The mayor’s Walking and Biking Task Force is asking local communities to weigh in on the issue.

"What we are planning to do is go out to the community and see what the residents feel the needs are," says Andy Kilpatrick with the City of Lansing. "Based on their input, we want to develop a plan to address these needs and fill in the gaps."

Kilpatrick says he hopes to take the draft to citizens this summer.
