Lansing-headquartered
University Research Corridor — the alliance of Michigan’s three leading research institutions of
Michigan State University, the
University of Michigan and
Wayne State University — was awarded the 2010 Catalyst award from
Michigan Emerging for making the state “a better place to live, work and play.’’
“I think what’s important is [that this award] is a recognition of the collaboration and partnership that has been created by these three, world-class universities to help transform Michigan’s economy,” says URC's executive director, Jeff Mason. “Roughly 1.6 billion worth of research and development is taking place this year alone. And the collaborations, I think, are an indication of the tremendous assets that these three institutions bring to the economy.”
The URC goals include aligning the three institutions’ collective resources toward accelerating economic growth and innovation and encouraging a greater level of collaboration involving the universities, communities and business.
The Michigan Emerging conference is a featured event of
Global Entrepreneurship Week/USA. It was designed to promote and connect innovators and entrepreneurs and the support system that exists in Michigan.
