Auto-Owners Insurance Buys 132 Acre Parcel in Delta Township

Auto-Owners Insurance Group has purchased a 132-acre parcel of land near the company's current headquarters. The land, at the intersection of Creyts Road and Interstate 496 in Delta Township, could be used for future expansions at the growing company.

According to excerpts from the article:

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. And while the insurer said it could use the property it bought from Detroit-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan for expansion, there are no immediate plans to do so.

"It became available, and they thought it would be a good acquisition to provide them with additional resources and flexibility to be able to expand, should they continue to grow at the rate they're growing at," spokesman Tom Shields said.

"It just shows that they're certainly committed to expanding and developing in the mid-Michigan area," Shields said.

Auto-Owners has 1,639 employees in Delta Township—almost double the 895 it had in 1999, the company said. It employs 3,400 nationwide.

"It's great for the entire region. It's an important example of a successful business choosing to stay right here in Michigan," Delta Township Supervisor Ken Fletcher said.
