120 Volunteers Join in Annual Capital City Clean Sweep

CEO and managers armed with rakes, garbage bags and gloves hit the streets to clean them up as part of the Capital City Clean Sweep.

According to excerpts from the article:

Eric Stevenson and Phil Denny picked up loose cigarette filters on South Washington Avenue on Thursday.

Stevenson, CEO of U.S. Capital Mortgage, and Denny, branch manager, were two of 120 volunteers from more than 15 organizations cleaning up about 40 blocks of downtown Lansing streets and parks for the second annual Capital City Clean Sweep.

"It's about having a sense of ownership in their community and encouraging employee volunteerism and building those public-private relationships," said Mindy Biladeau, executive director for the Lansing Principal Shopping District.

'There's still a need to do this'

Dana Kromer, 27, is a sales and marketing representative for Fox 47 and finds herself in downtown often.

"We come down for lunch and all the events," Kromer said. "If we want to enjoy it, we want to help clean it up."
