The City of East Lansing is experiencing a 28-year crime low, with major crime rates down significantly from its 1980 numbers.
According to excerpts from the article:
"We went back to 1979 before we found a year with a similar crime rate," Chief Tom Wibert said at an Aug. 6 press conference.
Wibert credited Sgt. Mike Phillips with the bulk of the work.
"The numbers that we went back to predate computers and the technology we have today," Wibert said.
"He ended up going to the state police, down in their basement, and looking at microfiche of documents."
