City of Lansing Brainstorming Future of Deluxe Inn Site

The City of Lansing is discussing how to clean up the former Deluxe Inn site, a closed motel that’s been a city eyesore for years.

According to excerpts from the article:

Joan Jackson Johnson, Lansing Human Relations Director: "It's not over until we put people into permanent housing. The solution is not just moving from one hotel to another, we want to and we have been successful thus far in upgrading people significantly."

Now that the building is emptying out, what happens to that site next? City officials clearly have some ideas in mind. It's been there for more than 20 years, and for 10 years it's been a problem for the city of Lansing, a hotbed for drugs and prostitution, an eyesore. Finally, the city has a chance to see it go.

Bob Trezise, Lansing Economic Development Corp.: "It's critical to me that this building be demolished, it's not fit for a motel, we need a new building and I think that's our fundamental premise."

The motel was foreclosed on, all the residents evicted, which gives way for the property to be redeveloped.
