Michigan State University (MSU) Dubai’s campus reported a 41 percent increase in student applications for the 2009-2010 academic year.
According to excerpts from the article:
The total number of students enrolled at the University has more than doubled following the latest student intake. The number of applications that were denied admission increased by 30%, reflecting MSU Dubai's rigorous academic admissions standards and its unwillingness to compromise on these standards.
The new students were enrolled across all six undergraduate programs currently offered by MSU Dubai and the incoming class comprised 19 different nationalities from 11 countries, including the UAE, other GCC countries and from as far afield as Syria, Kyrgyzstan and China.
The incoming class average GPA (grade point average) was 3.34, very similar to that of the main MSU campus in East Lansing, Michigan, which admitted over 7,000 new students for 2009-10 (more than 47,000 students are enrolled in East Lansing). This year's MSU Dubai's freshman class includes several Dubai high school valedictorians and other distinguished high school academic prize winners.
