Elementary school children from across the state came to Downtown Lansing’s Constitution Hall to learn about the environment and energy efficiency.
According to excerpts from the article:
About 2,500 kids from across the state attended the event, where they visited exhibits about the earth and environment.
"The kids are excited about the earth and protecting the environment, and we want them to know ways they can help the environment on a daily basis," said Teresa Salveta, a Michigan Department of Agriculture resource analyst who helped organize the event.
"A side bonus is to let them know different careers people have here in the state that are related to the environment."
Exhibits included a fenced area where children could pet two goats brought by the Michigan Association of Conservation Districts, an Office of Geological Survey activity that let students pump air through porous rocks and a table where JFNew, an ecological services firm, gave away native Michigan plants that kids could plant at school or home.
