The Ten Pound Fiddle Coffeehouse, one of the Capital region's premier folk music hangouts, has finished a mild makeover that includes a name change.
According to excerpts from the article:
n old-music terms, you could say the Fiddle has passed its 33-and-a-third anniversary. It started on Jan. 10, 1975.
Since then, it has been popular with musicians. Robin Williams (the folkie one, not the manic one) can vouch for that.
"For us, it's always fun to come there," Williams said by phone.
He and his wife Linda (a Michigan State University grad) will be at the Fiddle on Oct. 10.
"Over the years, we've been there a lot," Williams said. "With
Elderly Instruments there, it's like coming home."
Those elements—Elderly in Lansing, the Fiddle in East Lansing,
the Ark in Ann Arbor—bring a confluence.
Meanwhile, the Fiddle is getting its makeover:
• Its name is shorter. The word "coffeehouse" is gone, leaving "Ten
Pound Fiddle"—which is the title of an obscure Scottish tune.
• All shows are on Fridays.
• Ticket prices vary. Last year, all public tickets were $15. This year, that's the top price; some shows go for $12 or $10.
• And the range of shows is even wider than usual.
