In anticipation of the Hollywood-related jobs expected to come to the Capital region as a result of the state's successful film incentive package, Michigan State University (MSU) hired its first director for the Film and Media Arts Initiative in the College of Communication Arts & Sciences.

Andrea Meditch a well-documented expert in the documentary film business has taken the part-time job at MSU. She plans to divide her time between her home in Washington, D.C., and East Lansing.
Her film pedigree includes executive producer of "Man on Wire" and "Encounters at the End of the World." Both are nominees in the documentary feature category for this year's Oscars.
"I love building new things," Meditch said. "I got to have the chance to launch and build a multimedia initiative for the National Geographic Society."
But it is the two Oscar-nominated films that she counts among her career triumphs—opportunities to bring nuanced and elegant stories to a wide audience.
