The combination of the East Lansing Film Festival and the March NCAA Basketball Tournament drove plenty of fans and money into the Capital region.

The Spartans weren't the only ones competing Friday night.
City of East Lansing officials said the two reputable events add up to some needed good business.
"Every time we see the tournament occur," said Tim Dempsey of East Lansing Community Development, "we see an uptick in downtown businesses, the restaurants and bars."
"As the Spartans move on, in years' past, the crowd's always been thick," said Paul Stewart, the General Manager at Crunchy's in East Lansing. "Any time the East Lansing community can get together and do something as a whole is a great thing."
The director of the East Lansing Film Festival said up to 60 percent of festival-goers are from outside of East Lansing, "There area lot of filmmakers that are here with the film."
