Lansing-based Granger Energy is the regional leader in methane gas capture, operating 14 landfill gas projects throughout the United States.

It's a way of life for the Lansing-based company, which perfected a unique way of recovering methane gas from its parent company's existing waste management landfill operation. This success has resulted in a new, environmentally friendly business for Granger.
Granger Energy siphons naturally occurring methane gas from within existing landfills. Huge generators on site then convert the gas to electricity and sell it to local utilities. Or gas is piped directly to endusers, replacing the need for natural gas or other fuels.
"To us it made more sense to harness landfill gas as a resource rather than letting it go to waste," said Keith Granger, chief executive officer. "So in 1985, we developed our first project and launched a new line of business for our company."
