Johnny’s Lunch, which recently set up shop at the corner
of Abbot and Michigan Avenue below RetroDuck in downtown East Lansing, is a hit
with Michigan State University (MSU) students who flock to the burger joint
between classes.
According to excerpts from the article:
The hamburger and hot dog eatery, whose parent company
prides itself on low prices and long-standing signature items, has filled a
vacant spot on the corner of East
Grand River Avenue and Abbott Road on the edge of MSU's campus.
"We're huge supporters of the university," said
Jordan Main, a Northville resident who earned a bachelor's degree in accounting
from MSU in 2000. "We love East Lansing, Michigan State and the whole community, so that's
where we decided to start our venture."
The local Johnny's Lunch made its debut Friday, just in
time for Saturday's 100th MSU-University of Michigan football contest. Students made up
the majority of the 2,000 customers on game day, Main
said.
"After 15 minutes of being open, we had a
line," Main said. "It blew out our
expectations."
Main plans to
incorporate MSU's debit card system so students can use Spartan Cash.
