$2.8 Million in Stimulus Funds to Support Summer Youth Employment in Lansing

A program through Capital Area Michigan Works is helping students and at-risk youth get work for the summer in the Lansing area.

According to excerpts from the article.

$2.8 million of stimulus money will help create 600 jobs for at-risk youth in the Lansing area.

Kate Tykocki, Capital Area Michigan Works: "They might end up working at a private business, they might end up working at a non-profit, a community center, parks and rec, basically doing projects and work in our community."

But before they start working, they'll spend time training in a classroom.

Kate Tykocki, Capital Area Michigan Works: "They're going to talk a lot about workplace skills and lifeskills to make sure that you know they don't just work for eight weeks and then everything goes back to the way it is. We really want to change the path of these at-risk youth. This is an opportunity for young people that might have had an even tougher time and really probably need this income, these wages more than anyone else."
