Students Demonstrate Skills at Michigan Technology Showcase in Lansing

Students from all over the state displayed their interests and talents in technology at the ninth Michigan Student Technology Showcase in Lansing.

According to excerpts from the article:

"It gives them a better understanding of what's happening in 21st-century classrooms and how students learn," said Ric Wiltse, executive director of Lansing-based Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning, which organized the event. "It kind of hits on thetopic of adequate school funding, and it also shows them that technology is not a frill — it's a necessary component in today's schools."

Novi Middle School seventh-grader Jalen Ward demonstrated a Web-based animation program that he uses to create Japanese language movies. He and his classmates share their movies with each other, which sharpens their language interpretation skills.

"It makes learning a lot more fun, instead of writing it down," said Jalen, 12.
