The Dart Foundation, a private family foundation based in Mason, awarded $28,500 to the East Lansing school to purchase computers for seventh-graders involved in a collaborative science project on heredity, school district officials said.
The grant will help East Lansing Public Schools meet the optimum technology requirements of a multi-year National Science Foundation and Michigan State University partnership to study how students learn about science, the district said.
East Lansing students in grades five through seven learn about cells, heredity and ecosystems during the program, which was designed specifically for East Lansing by an advisory group of MSU professors and East Lansing teachers, officials said.
