East Lansing Mayor Labels 2008 a Success

East Lansing Mayor Victor Loomis says that, despite the country’s economic issues, the city had a successful 2008, a year that included lots of developments and economic activity.

One of the reasons I say that is, unlike some local governments as we read and hear, we're able to continue all of our infrastructure improvements as we had planned. Our sidewalk and street repair program, which has been in place for a number of years—it's been a 10-year program—it's very important to neighborhoods' quality of life that we keep our streets repaired, keep our sidewalks in good repair. We're right on schedule with that; we've been able to sustain that.

And as everyone knows, this last year was pretty challenging economic times, particularly as we entered into the last half of the calendar year, which is really the first half of our fiscal year.

We were able to maintain all of our infrastructure improvements as planned. I think you're aware that we completed the reconstruction of North Abbot Road, and that was done well ahead of schedule. We were able to open that up and create, really, a very nice entryway into our city.
