The Friends of Rayner Park in Lansing are adding more plants to the area's native plant garden, which was established in 2007.

Native-plant gardens are gaining in popularity throughout the United States as gardeners and conservationists want to preserve flora originally found in their respective regions.
These native plants attract native wildlife and establish well in a garden because they are already acclimated to the climate.
"Last year, most everything we planted came up," Friends member Tony Klain said.
