Rather than building a new parking structure, Lansing Community College (LCC) is negotiating with the City of Lansing for a $2.7 million purchase of the North Capitol Avenue structure.
According to excerpts from the article:
Lansing Community College was considering the construction of a 900-space downtown parking ramp when officials realized through a city contact that a new building wasn't necessary.
Over the last several months, LCC and the city of Lansing have negotiated the $2.7 million sale of the city's North Capitol Avenue parking ramp—made for 600 cars—at 316 N. Capitol Ave.
With an additional $1 million from LCC's parking fund, officials are planning for a total of $5.3 million in repairs and improvements, which should ensure the safety of the multi-level structure for 25 more years.
"We have a great opportunity to partner and work together and to address neighborhood concerns about expanded parking needs," Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero said. "We're very excited aboutthe facade improvements that the LCC (has) planned."
