Charlotte Plans New Use for Old Lansing Ice Skating Rink

Charlotte is planning to turn the hockey rink it recently purchased from Lansing into its very one ice paradise.

According to excerpts from the article:

According to City Councilman Kevin Weissenborn, the city's volunteer Ad Hoc committee charged with championing the effort will meet this week to begin discussing fundraising efforts. An estimated $20,000 to $30,000 is needed to fund the creation of a concrete foundation for the rink. So far, over $4,000 has been collected toward the expense.

Charlotte purchased the rink from the city of Lansing last fall for $2,000. The 85-feet wide by 185-feet long facility was located at Washington Park but was closed in 2005.

According to Amy Schoonover, Charlotte's director of Public Works, the facility will likely be located across from Lincoln Park, off Shepherd Street. The city had an ice rink at that same location, created by freezing water over a large tarp, but vandals destroyed that two years ago.
