Delhi Township Lets Sheep Cut Lawn Care Costs, Provide Warm Wool Socks

Sheep deployed by Delhi Township to reduce lawn maintenance costs are now providing wool for socks.

According to excerpts from the article:

The 16 sheep that township officials brought in this spring to eat grass and weeds on township property to save on mowing costs have given up their wool.

The sheep were sheared in May and the wool was sent to a company in Frankenmuth that turns the wool into socks, according to Department of Public Works Director Sandra Diorka.

"We now have like 250 pairs of socks," she said. "They're for sale just in time for winter."

The socks range in cost from $12 to $23 depending on the thickness and cut.

The group has been grazing on DPS property since May, when they were brought in to help defray the cost of weed removal and grass cutting.
