Lansing Community College (LCC) has bumped the number of
bachelor degrees it offers to six. A partnership with Lawrence Technological
University is allowing the school to offer the additional options.
According to excerpts from the article:
Stephanie Shanblatt, Chief Operating Officer of the
University Center: "They can do the entire program here in Lansing."
She says the program started in January but wasn't
formally adopted until recently. It works like this, students first take
classes through LCC in a specific concentration like engineering
technology.
Stephanie Shanblatt: "They get an associate's degree
in their specialty, whether it's welding, or alternative energy."
Then students move to LCC's newly opened University
Center to finish their bachelor's.
Stephanie Shanblatt: "It certainly will enhance
their ability to both get jobs and also to move up in an organization or
company once they have a job."
Steve Howell is an Associate Provost at Lawrence Tech. He
says the bachelor's programs the school is offering will help prepare students
for the types of jobs that Governor Granholm hopes to create.
