The Lansing Economic Development Corporation is paying Anderson Economic Group $30,000 to assess South Lansing’s assets and economic development potential.

"It's certainly an area that many feel has been overlooked in terms of economic development in Lansing," said Scott Watkins, director of market and industry analysis for East Lansing-based Anderson Economic Group, the firm hired to do the study.
South Lansing is home to about 60 percent of the city's residents, according to the city. It is an economic engine with its commercial corridors and manufacturing facilities, such as Barnes Aerospace and Symmetry Medical Inc.
Lansing's population was at 114,276, according to the 2006 Census Bureau estimate.
