Potential Buyers Excited About $12 Million Avondale Square Project

Even in a soft housing market, potential buyers are excited about the completion of the $12 million Avondale Square project in downtown East Lansing and are ready to get a sneak peek at one of the 30 housing units that are under construction.

According to excerpts from the article:

Bob Schroeder, of Mayberry Homes, said framing of a model home should be under way this week or next and it should be open by early March. It will be the first of 30 housing units the city is building in the 600 block of Virginia Avenue.

East Lansing acquired most of the property in the block, tore down the existing structures, most of which were student rental housing units, and is replacing them with townhouses and single-family homes, all of which will be owner occupied.

The $12 million redevelopment project will include 14 units that will be attached in townhouse style and 16 detached single-family homes, said Tim Dempsey, East Lansing community development administrator.

The price range will be from about $160,000 to $300,000.

Twelve of the homes will be "income qualified," he said, which will allow buyers to obtain assistance with a down payment and a second mortgage.
