An Okemos teen attending East Lansing High School, Michael Leap is one of only 20 students nationally to be named a 2008 Davidson Fellow, an honor that comes with a $10,000 scholarship.
According to excerpts from the article:
Each fellow had to present a project. Michael's project,"The Ontology of Science: A Critical Perspective," examined the relationship of science in society by synthesizing and applying several philosophical concepts to basic questions about science in everyday life.
"Basically, I wrote three papers talking about science and trying to rethink the way we go about science and technology," the 17-year-old said.
"When I read about things like science and scientific procedures and the way that we deal with energy policies, I see a big problem with it. The way we go about doing science is very exclusionary and it's very narrow focused."
"These students can make a really big impact on the world," said Tacie Moessner, program manager for Davidson Fellows.
