Historic Delhi Township Cemetery Approved for $100,000 in Renovations

The Delhi Township Development Authority is building a new wall and improving walkability near the historic Pioneer Cemetery on Aurelius Rd.

According to excerpts from the article:

Lodged between an apartment complex and the driveway of a home on busy Aurelius Road, Pioneer Cemetery is easy to miss. Until you try to ride your bike or walk past it.

The Delhi Township Downtown Development Authority decided to help the situation by building a new wall for the historic site at its meeting on April 28.

That's because there is roughly two feet between the cemetery wall and the road. "It's like you are on a balancing beam," DDA board member DiAnne Warfield said. Actually, it is a slanted beam, because the concrete is tilted toward the road.

The board approved funding for preliminary designs on the project to go to Landscape, Architects & Planners.

Spokesman Rob Ford brought in four different designs for the board to choose. The board went with a plan that will include a 10-foot wall that will create about five feet of space for the sidewalk. The plan is estimated to cost $119,660.

The cemetery is one of two Delhi Township historical markers,. The other is the school house at Washington and Holt Roads.
