"Masters of the Road," an acclaimed display of international vintage posters from the collection of Discount Tire founder Bruce T. Halle, will be open to the public through Nov. 23, 2008. The display is in conjunction with 10th anniversary celebration of the opening of the Bruce T. Halle Library on EMU’s campus.
Halle began collecting vintage posters advertising tires in 1982. Since then, he has amassed more than 330 color lithographs dating from 1888 to the mid-1970s and printed in seventeen countries. Most are representative of the style of the French Belle epoque.
Halle says he was attracted by their engaging compositions and exuberant sense of style. The posters also help convey the history of the industry to Discount Tire’s employees and to those visiting the corporate headquarters.
Halle is founder and chairman of Discount Tire Co. Inc., based in Scottsdale, Ariz., where he resides with his wife, Diane.
Halle enrolled at EMU (then Michigan State Normal College) in 1948 and left in 1950 to enlist in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He returned to Eastern in 1953 to complete his education, graduating in 1956 with a BBA. Halle was honored by EMU in 1995 with an honorary doctor of business administration.
