Pease Chamber Concert Series: Fu-Xi Piano Trio joined by DSO special guest

The Friends of Chamber Music at Pease are pleased to present its third concert of the 2008-2009 Pease Chamber Concert Series, featuring the Fu-Xi Piano Trio (Zhihua Tang, piano; Hai Xin Wu, violin; Robert deMaine, cello), joined by special guest artists from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (James VanValkenburg, viola; Alexander Hanna, double bass) in a chamber concert featuring Schubert's beloved "Trout" Quintet. The concert will be on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at 4:00 p.m., at Pease Auditorium on the Eastern Michigan University campus, and is free and open to the public.

The Fu-Xi Piano Trio was founded in late 2007, and made its debut in December 2007 at Pease Auditorium. Pianist Zhihua Tang was recently appointed Instructor of Collaborative Piano at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant. Violinist Hai Xin Wu joined the Detroit Symphony Orchestra violin section in July 1995 and was appointed Assistant Concertmaster of DSO in June 2004. Cellist Robert deMaine was appointed Principal Cellist of the DSO in 2002. On March 22, they will be joined by DSO Assistant Principal Violist James VanValkenburg, and newly appointed Principal Bassist Alexander Hanna.

The March 22 Pease concert will include:

•    Passacaglia on a Theme by Handel for Violin and Cello - Johan Halvorsen
•    Trio No. 7 in B-flat Major, Op. 97 ("Archduke") - Ludwig van Beethoven
•    Quintet in A Major for Piano and Strings, D. 667 ("The Trout") - Franz Schubert

As a special "prelude" to this concert, at 3:30 p.m. on the Pease Auditorium stage, the Friends are delighted to present a special performance by the Slatkin String Quartet—a student string quartet formed through the educational development of the Detroit Civic Youth Ensembles—of the final movement of Beethoven's Quartet in F Minor, op. 95 ("Serioso"). Please come early and enjoy the performance by this exciting young ensemble.
