Delta College lands on list for top associate degree producers in nation

One of the nation's top producers of science and technology technicians is sitting right here in Mid Michigan.

Delta College recently was named one of the top associate degree producers in the country by Community College Week Magazine. The magazine also ranked Delta College as 7th best in the nation for producing science and technology technicians.

"We're pleased to be on the list," says Leanne Govitz, director of marketing and public information at Delta.

In addition to graduating a large number of people with associate degrees, the college also is successful in retaining students in Mid Michigan once they graduate with those degrees, she says.

Being a community college, Delta is very focused on career education," Govitz says. The college has established close partnerships with employers in the area, and has worked with area companies to provide the kind of training to students by those companies.

This partnership has helped keep newly graduated students in the state and in the region, she says. In fact, 86 percent of Delta College graduates stay in Michigan, and 61 percent remain in the Great Lakes Bay region.

Community College Week magazine also ranked Delta college as a top associate degree producer in the following categories:

• All Disciplines -- Non-Minority: 70th with 1001 graduates;

• Business, Management, Marketing and Related Support Services: 38th with 278 graduates;

• Communication, Journalism and Related Programs: 41st with 17 graduates;

• Criminal Justice: 48th with 72 graduates;

• Precision Production: 19th with 21 graduates;

• Science Technologies/Technicians: 7th with 33 graduates;

• Security and Protective Services: 45th with 86 graduates.
