Roller derby recruiting members, offering derby boot camps

Looking to have a life outside of your 9 to 5 job? Tired of being "just" a housewife?

Then you might as well make your way over to the Skateland Arena for each Thursday in July from 7 to 9 p.m. and learn the basics of playing roller derby.

The Mid Michigan Derby Girls are presenting their Roller Derby Bootcamp, which will run July 7, 14, 21 and 28.

The only requirements are that you're 18 or older (and they insist that 30 years old is not too old by any means), be willing to skate on "quads," be willing to learn the game, that you have your own mouth guard and that you have a great attitude and be ready for fun.

It's even ok if you haven't been on skates since you were just a kid, or if you don't know how to skate at all.

"If you've never skated, we'll teach you," says the team's Facebook page. It helps that some of the girls on the team have more than 30 years skating experience.

Don't worry about bringing your own pads to this little party, either--they'll have some there for you to strap on.

There is a $20 fee to participate, but that includes all four sessions and you're going to get a nifty little t-shirt--that alone has to be worth it, right?
