McLaren Bay Region settles new partnership with Karmanos Cancer Institute

Advanced cancer care is coming to the Great Lakes Bay region, as McLaren Health Care announced it is signing an agreement with the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

A new Karmanos Cancer Institute center is opening on the campus of McLaren Bay Region to serve cancer patients in mid-Michigan this month as part of the new partnership. It is open to patients currently and is located in a newly renovated building on McLaren's west campus on Midland Road.

McLaren will put significant amounts of money into facility upgrades at existing Karmanos centers as well, and will fund clinical trials and research programs. President and CEO Dr. Gerold Bepler will stay on in his role at the head of the Detroit-based Karmanos Cancer Institute and Karmanos Cancer Center, and other Karmanos employees will remain in their roles as well.

The McLaren Cancer Institute will be folded into the Karmanos name, and the two center's clinical trial programs also will merge.
