The
Midland Area Community Foundation has a new president and CEO, Sharon Mortensen.
If that's a familiar name, it's no wonder: Mortensen has been the executive director at
Shelterhouse, or the Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, for the last eight years, and also has been active in leading the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program, helped develop the Girls on the Run Council for Midland and Gladwin counties.
Before that, Mortensen was a program coordinator and outpatient therapist at Family and Children's Services of Midland.
"We are so fortunate to welcome Sharon to the Midland Area Community Foundation team," says foundation board chair Craig McDonald. "She possesses the highest level of professionalism, unquestioned integrity and has formed remarkable community ties and relationships that will be invaluable to the foundation. Sharon is a true leader with vision, passion and a true enthusiasm for improving the quality of life for all people."
That's evident in Mortensen's long service to the community, which has included positions on the Chamber of Commerce Management Corporation Board, the Midland County Health and Human Services Council, Midland Public Schools School Closure Committee, Noon Exchange Club, City of Midland Housing Commission, Midland Health Plan Board of Directors, State of Michigan Domestic Violence Prevention & Treatment Board, Great Lakes Bay Regional Leadership Institute Steering Committee and Curriculum Subcommittee, Zonta Club of Midland and Midland County Continuum of Care.
She'll be stepping into the role of president and CEO officially on June 11.
