When Steven Melchi and his wife, Janie, decided to open up shop in April 2001 with an old van and a handful of tools, they never imagined that one day they would have thousands of customers who keep their repair business delightfully busy every day.
Apex Repair Service, located in Sanford, just marked its 10th year in business, serving the Midland and surrounding areas.
Apex was started out of the couple's home in Sanford, where they have lived for more than 25 years. Both have worked most of their careers in the building trades or service industry, and all in the local vicinity.
"We decided after 13 years of my employment as a Sears service technician to start our own business with little more than a desire to be beneficial to our community," Steven Melchi says. "The technology of the heating industry has changed drastically in the 30 years we have been in this field, and we feel it is our purpose to educate and administer the improvements available to our customers."
Apex Repair Service provides both preventative and emergency services in the heating, air conditioning, appliance and building maintenance fields.
Melchi says some older equipment doesn't always have to be replaced, but can be the recipient of updating in order to become more efficient and dependable. Many, he adds, just need cleaning to keep being reliable.
